IS MY BOAT HYPALON OR PVC

This is a question I have been asked many times over the years.

Here are some tips that may help.

Hypalon is usually a different colour on the underside.

If you sand hypalon fabric with a heavy grit sandpaper you will

get rubber dust.

When pvc fabric is sanded there is no dust.

When pvc boats are exposed to a lot of uv they discolour and will

eventually go sticky.

When hypalon boats are exposed to a lot of uv they tend to go dry

and chalky.

On older pvc boats the handles and fittings tend to fall off.Providing

they are glued not welded.

Older pvc boats will fall apart around the transom area and in the

case of rigid hull inflatables the cover strips from hull to tubes will

also come adrift.

Safe boating
